Move For Me Baby

I closed out with this one at the epic BeatElectric Dance Show and someone asked me to ID the tune from some video footage of the night online, so I thought I may as well post it up. I didn't choose a picture of a baby listening to music because the song is titles Move For Me Baby, thats just an unfortunate coincidence, no doubt helping speed along Google's internal proceedings to have us shut down. I wish I could even claim to be the copyright holder of the image, and that this was infact a picture of me at age 3 listening to a young parent's funk collection through a tube driven pair of sick looking cans, but as any of you who have actually met me would immediately notice this obviously isn't me, as I would never emphasize a little pot belly by wearing horizontal stripes.

Output was the vehicle producer David Reeves, aka later to become early hip hop pioneer Davy DMX, would use for the vocals of the talented Jerome Prister, who had just had a moderate hit on Prelude under the Secret Weapon moniker with the excellent 'Must Be The Music' (which for some reason I cannot find my copy of right now, otherwise I would post that too, if we haven't already). Output had another club hit later in the eighties with the catchy 'Say You'll Be', and I think Eddie Ski White's band may be the same band as Output just with Eddie on vocals, I'm not sure, but he appeared onstage with them on a bootleg live recording I heard.

downloads removed by request of Tuff City, who still sell some Output releases on their webiste.

Dâm-Funk

In advance of the show on Friday I felt it necessary to post a couple of tracks as well as a mix Dâm-Funk did for BBC radio whilst on his most recent European tour. As I have been following him over the last couple of years, it is interesting to see how Dâm has so heavily developed and evolved this style of music he has aptly coined Modern Funk. Give it a few years and if we are all lucky, the man will own a radio station or two in just about every market.

Thanks to our friends from the Donuts crew, Dâm-Funk performs Friday 9/11/9 at Poleng Lounge in the Nopa district of SF. DJ's from Beat Electric and Sweater Funk open. This event is pretty much essential.

Two Years

I don't check our email nearly often enough, but I just came across a really cool note from a gentleman in the UK who has been a modern house DJ for 10 or so years. Long story short, the man had an epiphany between a party he went to and some of the content he found on our site. He is now on a serious mission to dig up old wax and start a new party in Brighton based on the classic sounds he is sifting through. Today is the two year anniversary of Beat Electric, and I must say it is messages such as this one that inspire us to continue curating this blog.

I received another recent email requesting we post the Instrumental Tee Scott mix of Music Turns Me On by Sparque, and in the spirit of the moment I am happy to oblige.

Also posted here is a lovely modern soul stepper from the very obscure Ohio outfit Satellite entitled You're The One I Love and a classic Ron Hardy Edit of Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principles Your Love.

If you live in the Bay Area, come out and celebrate with us tonite at Amnesia in SF. A few members of the BE crew will be spinning the jams whilst pondering what the hell happened to the last couple of years.
