An obscure gem from Washington DC, Hang With The Gang is a prime slab of boogie/funk from 1981. A background party track, vocoder stabs, and genre defining moog bassline might very well make this the ultimate party jam. The Backlash EP (Pictured) and the Hang With The Gang 12" were the only releases on the private Strata Sphere label making this a very rare cut indeed. A reissue is in order sometime in the next year or so, but until then expect to pay a lot of coin for this heavily sweated and near perfect underground boogie workout. For more tracks with a party going on in the background, check LeBaron's recent post Party Disco.
Partay is right!
ReplyDeletethere is another 12" by Backlash on Stratasphere called "soft and easy". Used to be on Gemm.com at $7 for about 10 years. Now I think is getting snapped up for it's "quiet storm" properties.
ReplyDeleteAlso there is a Go Go band that released music on Stratasphere which saw 12" vinyl release. Not common either, forgot their name.
The 12" for "hang with the gang" was a 1000 press, while the EP was a 5000 press. Hence the "have it in my crate" ratio and price difference.
Don 't worry, the reissue is coming.
Wow amazing track !!
ReplyDeleteJust love it in a second !!
Thanks for the Gemm, now I must find out those rare 12'' or 7'' asap.
Keep on the great job.
can you post the whole ep? there are a few other interesting cuts on there- my vinyl is in horrible shape though. my friends mom gave me her copy back in the 90's, but it got messed up. thanks!
